Winter Storm Watch designated for entirety of tristate area

04 January 2024- Both the National Weather Service out of State College and Baltimore/Washington have announced official Winter Storm Watches for this weekend. This covers Central Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

* WHAT…Heavy snow and mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze possible.

* WHERE…Portions of central Pennsylvania, Western Maryland.

* WHEN…From Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS…The worst travel conditions are expected Saturday afternoon through Saturday night, especially along Interstates 80 and 81, with snowfall rates in excess of one inch per hour at times creating snow covered roads and poor visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Mixed precipitation will cut down on accumulations over the Lower Susquehanna River Valley, but the transition zone is still uncertain at this time.
