CHAMBERSBURG – Town Council, earlier this week, approved the attached Ordinance No. 2021-01 to amend the Animals Code for keeping chickens and other animals at residential properties.

The new rules allow chickens to be kept at properties where a residential dwelling is the primary use, however, roosters are prohibited. Chickens must be housed in a chicken enclosure, which may or may not be located in a fenced yard. The enclosure must serve as an area for the chickens to run yet prevent them exiting the property. Be in touch with Management at the Borough for a copy of the Ordinance and detailed description of the new chicken rules along with rules for keeping small and large animals at properties where a residential dwelling is the primary use.

The new Animals Code regulations become effective July 1, 2021 and will be enforced by staff from the Land Use and Community Development Department.
