Welfare stop in McConnellsburg leads to more drug sale charges in Fulton County

23 February 2024- It appears that a man already in custody in Franklin County on drug possession with intent to distribute is also facing similar charges out of Fulton County. Michael Bret Golden is charged by PSP McConnellsburg with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver narcotics, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, three misdemeanor counts of DUI, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and summary careless driving. Golden is still behind bars in Franklin County, but now with an additional bail of $50,000.

Around 7:42pm on December 20th, 2023, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers in McConnellsburg were dispatched for a welfare check on a woman in the parking lot of the McConnellsburg McDonalds. Upon arrival, PSP say that the found the woman in question sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by Michael Golden. Golden, Troopers say, exhibited signs of being impaired while operating the vehicle. Due to that, Golden was taken into custody and processed on charges of DUI.

While speaking to the woman who was Golden’s passenger, Troopers say they learned that Golden possibly had a large amount of drugs and maybe weaponry at a hotel room in the borough. A search warrant was applied for and granted for the hotel room, with Troopers allegedly finding two smoking devices for methamphetamine and a a black electric safe. Golden was asked about the key to the safe, to which he said he didn’t have a key. He did, however, let Troopers try to pick the lock.

After successfully picking the lock, Troopers reportedly found a large amount of drug sale items inside of the safe. Inside they found Methamphetamine, MDMA, a scale, a notebook, bags for distribution, multiple containers, a large amount of US bills, and a scoop with the meth.

Golden eventually admitted to police, Troopers say, that not only were the items all his, but that he had purchased a quarter pound of meth from a guy in Johnstown, PA for $1,700.

Golden was released after this incident, however, due to PA Rule 519. He would later be arrested in Franklin County on more drug possession charges.

Michael Golden remains behind bars in Franklin County.
