Waynesboro woman allegedly steals purse from home, corrects officer that it was “on the porch”

03 January 2023- A Waynesboro woman is booked on burglary charges after she allegedly steals another woman’s purse from the victim’s home, only for her to correct the victim and officer responding. Victoria Lynn Johns is charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft stemming from a December 30th, 2022 theft in the borough of Waynesboro. Johns is behind bars on $50,000 bail.

Around 2:30pm on December 30th, Waynesboro PD was dispatched to a home on Pratt Court for reports of a burglary. The caller talked to police, allegedly saying he was with family at the park when he had to return home to use the restroom. When he got home, Johns was allegedly outside the house and asked him for money. Allegedly telling her he had none, the victim noticed that the gray purse she had with her looked like his wife’s purse. After checking the home and checking with his wife, the victim allegedly chased Johns, catching her with the purse in hand. Johns allegedly gave the purse back but the victim called the police and Johns stayed. While explaining the series of events to WPD officers, Johns allegedly chimed in to contradict the victim, saying “the purse was on the porch, it wasn’t in the house”.

Johns is behind bars on $50,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for January 10th.
