24 July 2023- A Waynesboro man is denied bail after it seems he attacked his parents following months of mental health troubles. Derek Wyatt Wible is charged with felony aggravated assault with extreme indifference, misdemeanor terroristic threats, misdemeanor assault, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Wible is in custody at Franklin County Jail.
Washington Township PD were dispatched to a home on Oxford Circle in Waynesboro on July 22nd for a reported stabbing. The caller allegedly said that she believed her son, Derek Wible, had stabbed his father, her husband.
When police arrived on scene, the initially met with the caller but she was told to stay outside while officers went in. Readying lethal force, police arrived in the room where Wible and his father were but found Derek subdued after wrestling with the elder Wible. The knife was knocked to the side, taken into custody, and police were subsequently able to take Wible himself into custody.
Interviews with the victims found that Wible entered their room while they were watching TV. Wible allegedly looked outside then immediately lunged at his father. A scuffle ensued and the knife was knocked away from Wible and he was wrestled to the ground. When he entered the room, Wible allegedly said out loud that he was going to kill his parents, saying that he “planned this for months and was going to kill them”. One of the victims reportedly told police that back in December Wible had a knife to himself and has “murderous and suicidal thoughts”. No injuries were reported as a result of the attack.
Police talked with Wible in officers’ patrol car, with him allegedly telling police that he tried to kill his father because it was either “me or him”.
Derek Wible was denied bail by MDJ Manns. His preliminary hearing is set for August 1st.
