Waynesboro man charged with breaking into woman’s home, destroying coffee pot, and fighting her dad

01 June 2023- A Waynesboro man is free on an unsecured bail after he allegedly is drunk when he breaks into a woman’s home and tries to fight her father. Tanner William Vaughn is charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor assault by intimidation, felony criminal trespass, and summary criminal mischief. Vaughn is free on an unsecured bail of $50,000.

Around 1:30am on May 28th, Waynesboro PD officers were dispatched to a home on West Main Street in the borough for an alleged domestic disturbance. Dispatch allegedly told officers that a man had made his way into an apartment and was involved in an altercation with the occupant of the home. Although the man had left the scene, multiple witnesses came forward afterwards.

When police arrived, one of the witnesses was sweeping up glass that was apparently a coffee pot that had been broken by the perpetrator, who was known to the victim as Tanner Vaughn. Vaughn allegedly threw the coffee pot to the ground from the second floor entrance stairway.

An interview with the victim and subsequent written statement showed a clearer series of events. Tanner Vaughn allegedly broke the window in the door that leads to the home of the victim. and let himself in by unlocking the door and deadbolt. Vaughn then made his way into the victim’s bedroom and began grabbing her arm and shouting at her. After making her way downstairs, Vaughn allegedly threw the coffee pot off the balcony when he saw her. The victim’s father then was alerted to the incident and tried to confront Vaughn. The victim’s father and Vaughn allegedly had altercation, with the first allegedly saying he felt like he needed to protect himself when Vaughn came in. Vaughn allegedly “moved in an aggressive manner towards” the victim twice.

Leaving in his pickup truck, Vaughn left the property. Police were told by the victim that Vaughn does own a firearm and also carries it on his person so she was scared for her life. Additionally, the victim said Vaughn smelled alcohol during the incident.

Tanner Vaughn is free on an unsecured bail of $50,000. His preliminary hearing is set for June 27th.
