Waynesboro man admits to child porn possession, Troopers say

09 April 2024- Child pornography charges have been levied against a Waynesboro man who reportedly downloaded the files at his friend’s home. Cayden Anthony Winebrenner is charged with ten counts of felony child pornography possession and one felony count of criminal use of a communications facility. Winebrenner remains behind bars on $50,000 after failing to post bail.

Pennsylvania State Police Troopers initially received a cybertip all the way back on September 30th, 2022 from Snapchat that a file of apparent child pornography had been uploaded into their systems by a user now alleged to be Cayden Winebrenner. An email associated with that Snapchat account had a name similar to Winebrenner’s, with a Comcast IP address eventually being associated to the upload point. That IP address allegedly showed a location on Northeast Avenue in Waynesboro. The person’s name associated with the IP address, however, was not Winebrenner.

PSP’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Computer Crime Unit eventually was able to follow up on the tip on December 11th, 2023 by running surveillance on the previously mentioned home. A search warrant was then applied for and granted on the home. An additional subpoena was obtained for the Gmail address associated with the previously mentioned Snapchat account.

On December 13th, PSP executed the search warrant on the home and Troopers subsequently one of the witnesses at the home. After questioning, PSP reportedly learned that one of the witness’ friends, Cayden Winebrenner, had access to their Wifi and that he “had many Snapchat usernames as his accounts keep getting deleted”. Winebrenner reportedly had access to the internet because “his mother did not want him using cell phones or social media”.

PSP then went to speak with Winebrenner’s family, with his mother alleging that “she has had many issues with Winebrenner and only allowed him to use his school devices to access the internet, as she had found inappropriate things on his phone in the past” and described “sexual deviancy”.

Winebrenner was interviewed that morning by PSP investigators. During the conversation, Winebrenner allegedly initially denied knowing about the previous Snapchat account flagged for explicit child sexual material. During that conversation, PSP say that Winebrenner had repeatedly mentioned “not knowing” what the child porn was, so he saved it to ask a friend later. Those Troopers then explicitly say in their court report, “I informed Winebrenner that files of CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Materials) are typically obviously images of children naked or” performing acts and were confused on how he could not know what they were.

Troopers again interviewed Winebrenner in another room, with him allegedly telling them that he believed he was being groomed and was addicted to pornography, including Child Sexual Abuse Materials. He would reportedly access them initially in Telegram channels before saving them. A subsequent search of multiple phones obtained from Winebrenner found CSAM, PSP say.

Cayden Winebrenner is behind bars on $50,000 bail. He is currently awaiting his formal arraignment, slated for May 29th.
