CHAMBERSBURG—Volunteers are needed to help with the annual Salvation Army Christmas dinner.
“Even with the pandemic, the Salvation Army Christmas dinner will still take place, although not in quite the same way,” said Lynne Newman, event organizer. “This year, we will be delivering all our meals with no one being served inside the building.”
Volunteers are needed to get ready on Christmas Eve and to deliver meals on Christmas Day, and donations of food are needed as well.
“We will be following all restrictions put in place to manage the pandemic, from wearing masks and gloves to practicing social distancing,” Newman said.
Each year, the dinner typically serves about 600 meals.
“We will need, cans of sweet potatoes, fruit salad, instant mashed potatoes, mandarin oranges, corn, green beans, crushed pineapple, cranberry sauce and chicken broth, along with carrots, celery onions, garlic cloves, 40 loaves of bread, flour, sugar, cider vinegar, milk and fresh fruit and deserts,” Newman added. “Any donation no matter the amount will be gratefully appreciated.”
