04 October 2023- UPMC is set to unveil the final stage of their Breast Cancer Garden of Hope at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. The six-foot-tall structure is set to be unveiled this Saturday, October 7th in an event that runs from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
“Gardens facilitate the healing process, providing solace when recovery isn’t possible,” said Sue Bowman of the Garden Club of York. UPMC calls the garden a “serene space (that) serves as a tribute to those we’ve lost and a symbol of strength for those currently battling breast cancer” as well as future generations who may be battling it themselves or with another person.
The garden will be open just outdoors from the UPMC Memorial Health hospital on the center’s Memorial Health Fund Trail. Bowman continued, saying that “in hospital settings, where control can be limited, choices like walking paths, movable seating, and natural art promote independence”.
The sculpture is designed by Pennsylvania artist Lorann Jacobs, with it being unveiled during the Blossoming Beyond: Celebration of Strength event this Saturday. All are welcome to attend.
