UPDATES: Preliminary blood tests show Fayetteville man who led PSP on multi-county chase was on cocaine, cannabis

14 June 2024- Court filings from Pennsylvania State Police show that the man they say led them on a multi-mile, multi-county chase earlier this week was on cocaine and cannabis at the time of his crash. Quentin Tyler Bitner was charged on June 13th with felony fleeing an officer, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor DUI, and 9 traffic violations as a result of that chase.

PSP say they initially clocked Bitner’s 1996 Toyota Corolla at 112mph near the intersection of Dymond Avenue and Lincoln Way East in Guilford Township just around 7pm on June 12th. This chase saw Bitner allegedly blow through multiple stop lights, illegally and dangerously pass vehicles in the middle turn lane, and continue into Adams County from Franklin County.

PSP Troopers from Chambersburg executed a PIT maneuver on Bitner’s vehicle on Buchanan Valley Road near Church Road in Franklin Township, Adams County. That PIT maneuver was successful in terminating the pursuit but as a result, Bitner’s vehicle overturned and came to a rest on its roof. Both Bitner and his passenger, however, were able extricate themselves from the vehicle.

Bitner was quickly Mirandized and allegedly admitted to driving on a suspended license as well as having multiple failure to pay warrants out for him. He thought incorrectly, though, that PSP would stop chasing him if he ran a red light “because the cops in Maryland will stop”.

Bitner was transported to Meritus Hospital for possible head, neck, and shoulder injuries. Bitner’s passenger was life flighted to York Hospital for possible back, neck, and shoulder injuries as well. The latter was determined to have serious but non-life threatening injuries.

While at Meritus Hospital, Troopers say they were able to receive Bitner’s blood test from nurses as well as the determination the latter’s injuries were non-life threatening as well. The results of the preliminary blood tests reportedly shoed positive indicators for cannabis and cocaine in Bitner’s system at the time of his intake.

Bitner has yet to be arraigned for his charges and is likely still at Meritus Hospital.
