UPDATES: Chambersburg man allegedly has Glock, White Claws on him when he rode bus to James Buchanan High School

11 April 2024- A Chambersburg man is behind bars in Franklin County today after allegedly getting drunk and pretending to be a high school student for a day, all the while having alcohol and a handgun on him. Devin Jeffrey Reed is behind bars after being denied bail by MDJ Jody Eyer after the latter says in filings “no amount of money or bail conditions will keep public safe”. Reed was charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds, misdemeanor trespassing on school grounds, misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and summary public drunkenness.

Pennsylvania State Police were originally dispatched to James Buchanan High School a little after 10am on April 10th after the school’s resource office had put a man in custody that was not enrolled as a student at the school. That person in custody has since been identified as Devin Reed, with him reportedly being in possession of one firearm known to the resource officer.

PSP say that JBHS staff told them Reed had boarded a Tuscarora School District bus that morning around 7:45 and posed as a new student named “Jameis Creed”. “Creed” boarded the bus at the intersection of Lincoln Way West and Nugget Way, with him having a pink backpack during the duration of the incident.

After running “Creed’s” name through TSD systems, it did not find him as a listed enrolled student and he was set to be brought back to his home by the school’s police officer. When that officer was bringing him home, however, Reed (Creed), allegedly told the SRO that he was not a student and was in fact an adult. Additionally, Reed allegedly told the officer that he had alcohol and a firearm in his backpack.

The SRO then held Reed in his custody until PSP arrived and took him into their custody. It was at that point that “Jameis Creed” was identified as Devin Reed, 23 years of age. PSP say that Reed had confessed to posing as a student after getting “extremely intoxicated the night prior” and decided to try to pose as a student for the day. In the backpack, PSP allegedly found a Glock 43X, ammunition for that handgun, and several cans of White Claw Hard Seltzer.

Devin Reed was denied bail by MDJ Eyer and remains behind bars in Franklin County.
