March 22 – Initial reports are surfacing from a US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee on actions from President Biden’s Department of Justice against parents who spoke out at school board meetings.
The Justice Department subjected parents to the opening of an FBI investigation about them, which included an FBI case file with their political views and a threat tag to their names just because they spoke at their local school board meeting.
The report alleged the Biden administration wanted to silence critics of Democrat education policies.
The committee has also subpoenaed a leader from the National School Boards Association who apparently signed a letter to Biden urging this kind of action.
How on earth would the FBI have jurisdiction over local school board meetings and what happens therein?
Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “This is just so chilling.”
Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “To be clear, this is not a court decision. This is a House Judiciary Committee opinion on how this process was apparently abused.”
The committee would have the authority to refer this to the Department of Justice or if they could find a plaintiff that’s been damaged by this, it could make it into the courts.
Barkdoll said, “Once again it looks like you have executive action, regulatory action that when this happened, we talked about how can this be legal? How can the federal government have jurisdiction over things at local school boards? You wonder if internally, did the federal officials that were implementing this all know that it was going to be out of bounds? But they knew it would take a couple years for that conclusion to be made and in the meantime, the program had been implemented.”
The final judiciary committee report may be months away – this was just the first taste.
Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “We know that the National School Board Association, that letter that was written, there’s questions about whether there was coordination with the White House to do that that sparked the initial look into this. That’s very disturbing and the idea that it could go to the Justice Department, well, do we really think they’re going to do anything? Because a lot of what these parents were protesting was the ideology of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the other things that come along with that, which the Biden administration has now embraced in full without any public discussion saying we have to support that everywhere. So it makes you question, were they trying to protect that new ideology that they’re trying to promote so much? Were they doing this purely for political reasons? In any case, it’s looking very unlike what the United States should be about in being able to question things our government might be doing.”
Barkdoll said, “I’m not optimistic that the DOJ would do anything with this. We see this routinely out of these Congressional investigations. Nothing really comes out of them. They’ll issue the report, big headlines. I think it’s worth it. There ought to be something done about it, but rarely, almost never do you see the Department of Justice or someone take action on this.”
