Underwear-clad St Thomas burglar tased after he allegedly tries to enter home by ripping out AC unit

10 July 2023- It certainly wasn’t Captain Underpants who broke into a St Thomas home in the early hours of July 10th. Nicholas Allen Thomas is charged with felony attempted burglary, misdemeanor defiant trespassing, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and summary criminal mischief. Thomas is behind bars in Franklin County on $50,000 bail.

Police were dispatched to a home in St Thomas Township around 2:50am on July 10th for an in-progress burglary. Police learned that a heavy set man clad in only his undergarments had ripped an air conditioning unit out of a window of a home and was trying to get inside. Police then talked with the victim, who allegedly told them that he saw the man leaving their property and walking east on Race Track Road.

Just after 3am, Troopers found a man dressed only in underwear walking near the intersection of Race Track Road and Betteker Lane. The man, now identified as Nicholas Thomas, allegedly refused commands to lay on the ground and an altercation ensued. Thomas allegedly resisted arrest and had to be tased to be taken into custody.

After Thomas was taken into custody, the victims were interviewed fully. Police say that the victims, a husband and wife, were sleeping in their bedroom with their 9 month old child when they heard a noise coming from their air conditioner. Thinking it was just heavy rain, the victims were shocked to discover it was actually Nicholas Thomas trying to get into their home. After being told to leave the property, the police were called. A four year old child was also allegedly in the home at the time of the burglary.

Police say that the AC unit was found ripped from the window as well as a shutter being damaged from the window.

Nicholas Thomas is behind bars on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for July 18th.
