Two young children killed in I-81 accident

August 4 – A three-vehicle crash took the lives of a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon in Silver Spring Township in Cumberland County on I-81, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Gregory Nornhold, 35, of Mechanicsburg, was driving north on 81 with the children in a Volkswagen Tiguan. A little beyond the PA Turnpike exit, he crossed the median and struck a pick-up truck and a Ford Focus in the southbound lane.

The pick-up truck was driven by Jason L. Flenner, 43, of Carlisle, and the Focus was driven by Keith Bannister, 45, of Harrisburg.

All three men were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to PSP.

The children succumbed to the injuries they sustained in the crash.

The southbound lane was closed for more than four hours Tuesday.
