Traffic stop in Franklin County yields marijuana distribution items, illegal firearms

08 March 2023- A Florida man is behind bars in Franklin County after being stopped on I-81 for traffic violations. Kyle Alson Murray is behind bars on $150,000 bail. He’s looking at charges of felony firearms possession without a license, felony possession of drugs with intent to distribute, misdemeanor drug possession, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia, and summary following too close.

Around 6:15pm on March 4th, Pennsylvania State Police pulled over a vehicle on I-81SB for following a car too closely. After approaching the vehicle, Troopers allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Talking to the driver, who allegedly didn’t have his identification on him, and his passenger, Kyle Murray, it was found the two were traveling back to Atlanta, Georgia from visiting “family” in New Jersey.

Murray was asked why the vehicle smelled like marijuana, with him allegedly saying it did “a little bit”. Murray then allegedly told police there were between 10-14 grams of it in the car as well as firearms in the backseat. A written search of the vehicle was denied by Murray but did allegedly give verbal consent. It was at this point Murray allegedly said that everything inside the car belonged to him.

Inside the car, Troopers allegedly found a loaded Springfield XD10 handgun, an unloaded Glock, suspected marijuana and THC wax, empty plastic containers in the truck of the car, three cell phones, a scale with leafy marijuana inside it, and another cell phone in the center console. Additionally, police allegedly found over $2,000 in Murray’s front pocket wrapped in rubber bands.

Murray was taken into custody without incident. He remains in jail on a bail of $150,000. His preliminary hearing is set for March 14th.
