Today is the last day to apply for the open Hagerstown City Council seat

March 1 – A 22-minute Hagerstown Mayor and City Council meeting saw one person step up to the mic last night to congratulate the new mayor.

It was a quick meeting for Tekesha Martinez in her first regular session as mayor.

Council approved the resolution for the development agreement with Eastern Sports Management for the Hagerstown Fieldhouse project at the old Municipal Stadium site.

The Appalachian Regional Commission fiscal year 2024 funding request was approved.

Wes Decker, Communications Officer for the City of Hagerstown explained, “The money is federal money, but it funnels through the Washington County Commissioners. What they were approving last night was to send the priorities on to the commissioners of which there were three funding priorities.”

Those included an update to the 10-year plan for the city, upgrades to the Hager House Museum and some money for CDL training for truck drivers employed by the city.

Decker reminded, “Today is the deadline for anyone who wants to apply for the vacant city council position.”

Applications must be turned into the city clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. this afternoon at 1 E. Franklin Street in Hagerstown.
