Today is it – Tax Day

CHAMBERSBURG – For those who put off their taxes until the last minute, there’s still hope.

You can still file electronically and depending on your status, you may be able to do so for free. Various vendors online will allow you to do that as well as irs.gov.

If you aren’t able to file electronically, be sure to have your tax return post-marked by today, Monday, 17 May 2021.

During his regular visit on 14 May 2021 Attorney Clint Barkdoll pointed out, “I had a call yesterday from someone that they owe taxes, they don’t have the money to pay and they were thinking they just will go past Monday and not file. No, do not do that. Even if you owe money, file your return. Yes, you will get penalties and interest for any unpaid money that’s due, but it’s going to be an even bigger problem if you don’t file at all.”

If you’re subject to quarterly estimated payments, you will have another due date on June 15.

“There are a lot of important days to keep in mind and it is confusing this year because they’ve extended the deadline,” Barkdoll said. “There are millions and millions of 2019 returns that still have not been processed. They’re sitting in warehouses and trucks. The IRS has just not been able to get these things done. Even if you’ve already filed your 2020 taxes, the reporting is that the refund process is very delayed this year. So, the only advice is, be patient. Things are being processed, but they’re not happening at the speed at which you might be accustomed to.”
