There’s still time! State help is available in PA to help smooth out FAFSA issues for collegebound students!

21 May 2024- Throughout May, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is providing opportunities for college-bound students and their families to seek assistance in correctly and successfully completing the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

The FAFSA is the first, and most critical, step in applying for financial assistance for the 2024-25 academic year. Many families, especially those in unique situations, have encountered challenges in correctly completing the newly revamped FAFSA form.

“Our Higher Education Access Partners, who serve as FAFSA and financial aid experts, have been working tirelessly to assist every family in need since the new FAFSA’s release on December 31,” said Senator Wayne D. Fontana, PHEAA Board Chairman. “I encourage anyone who has a question regarding the FAFSA to participate in one of these virtual events. It is critical that you complete and submit the FAFSA correctly and our Access Partners can provide that needed guidance.” PHEAA is hosting a virtual FAFSA Line-by-line Overview on Wednesday, May 22 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM to walk participants through each line of the FAFSA application form. The event is open to all and interested attendees can register online for this free event.

PHEAA is joining U.S. Senator Bob Casey’s office in hosting a FAFSA Overview webinar on Tuesday, May 28 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, providing an overview of the 2024-25 FAFSA and step-by-step guidance in filling out the FAFSA application. There will be a Q&A session after the presentation.

Interested participants can register online. You can learn about and register for other free higher education planning webinars, hosted by PHEAA financial aid experts, at

PHEAA’s Access Partners are also offering virtual office hours throughout May for college-bound students and their families, as well as school counselors, who have questions regarding the 2024- 25 FAFSA. They are available for one-on-one virtual FAFSA sessions on Wednesdays in May from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. To schedule a session, call or text the PHEAA Access Partner who serves your local region; contact information is available at schoolservices.shtml. You may also call during these hours and ask your question, rather than scheduling a session.

“We are pleased to provide ongoing assistance to students and families in need of FAFSA guidance,” explained James H. Steeley, PHEAA President and CEO. “We’ve worked to offer this guidance in a format that is easily accessible to everyone throughout the Commonwealth.”

PHEAA’s Board of Directors recently announced that the FAFSA submission deadline, with relation to the PA State Grant Program, has been extended to June 1, 2024. Even with the extension to June 1, PHEAA urges students who have not yet submitted their FAFSA for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year to submit it as soon as possible. To meet the PA State Grant deadline as a first-time or renewal applicant, PHEAA will look at the student’s FAFSA submission date. Once the FAFSA is submitted, students needing to complete the PA State Grant Form, or any supplemental documentation, have until the academic year student reconsideration deadline (April 1, 2025 for the 2024-25 award year).

The FAFSA submission deadline for first-time applicants who plan to enroll in a community college; business, trade, or technical school; a hospital school of nursing; a designated Pennsylvania Open Admission institution; or a non-transferable 2-year degree program at a community, 2-year, or 4-year college remains August 1, 2024.
