The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is a pretty interesting lesson on our current media environment

April 29 – The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held over the weekend at the Hilton Hotel in DC and attended by almost 3,000 journalists.

The dinner has been going on since 1921 and hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, an organization of journalists that specifically cover the White House and the president.

However, one rather large publication actually boycotted Saturday’s event.

Attorney Clint Barkdoll pointed out, “You know it’s bad when even the New York Times boycotts the event and to their credit, they’re saying we don’t want to attend this event when its coverage of people in the news and we don’t want to be there supporting them when we have to cover them. I think these events have been declining over the years. We know Trump boycotted it during his tenure. It’s become this Hollywood thing. A lot of celebrities show up. It’s known as the nerd prom in DC. It was the leading story on some of the news programs on Sunday and I just don’t get it. They had a Saturday Night Live guy that was a comedian. Biden tells a bunch of jokes, none of which are written by himself, by the way. Don’t ever think when the president is up there, whether it was Biden or any of his predecessors, they have a professional joke writer that comes in, they write these jokes. They’re on a teleprompter and then the president delivers them and that’s of course what happened again on Saturday night.”

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM noted, “Frankly I think this is another teachable moment, another media lesson, to the far left, to the RINOs. This White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it deserves really zero coverage, but boy did it take a circle twerk of lefties trying to outdo each other in their hatred of everything that wasn’t what is good and fair. You’ve got mainstream media that continues to give any kind of air to it and when I was listening to Fox News over the weekend, it was oh, there’s some weather things going on here. Tornadoes, people dying, and then they spent an enormous amount of time, second story would be the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Please do not be fooled by the fools and the conniving evil fools that would put this, it does not deserve to be led at all.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “I’m not so surprised it was a leading story because it’s about them. It’s about them. It’s all about us and so we have to report on it. It was the shortest time that any president has ever been up there to speak. Yeah, he had a couple good lines and that was about it. There was a distinct observation, I think, that they gave little polite clapping. You know the golf course kind of clap, to anything attacking Biden, which usually they really can cut deep and make fun of the current president and that’s supposed to be taken with good nature, but now there’s like little polite clapping. Anytime they went after Trump, it was much more obvious that they liked it which only just demonstrates further the bias and the non objectivity that exists now among the press corps.”

Barkdoll said, “He made a lot of jokes, Biden did, about his age, as the comedian that did the event but they weaved a lot of things in about Trump and his age and his legal troubles, but pretty much every major media organization except the New York Times, they’re all there. I mean, FOX is there, MSNBC, all the networks, all of the print publications and they make such a big deal out of this event. Many public officials attend this. You saw John Fetterman, he had his white hoodie on with a black bow tie decal on. That’s how he got into the event. That was his black tie outfit. So it’s become a really big deal in Washington, DC. Presumably it’s a fundraiser by the way for scholarships. But we know it’s turned into just so much of a different event over the years.”
