The president finally visits the border – but was it a true picture?

January 9 – Out in the West Texas town of El Paso, quite an interesting performance occurred yesterday.

President Joe Biden visited El Paso on Sunday to see what’s actually going on at the border.

But prior to his arrival, a whole lot was cleaned up and sort of, if you will, swept under the rug. Homeless people on the streets were taken away.

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM wondered, “How do you pull off that lie in front of any Democrat that has any substance to go one minute there’s people sleeping on all the streets here, the next minute they’re not there. You’re being lied to, my Democrat friend here. You’re being lied to again and again on the southern border.”

Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “I really think El Paso, the city there and certainly the federal government did a disservice to the president in that sense.”

Biden spent four hours in El Paso yesterday and he did visit the border.

Barkdoll said, “But the reporting is in the hours before the president showed up there was this sweep of the area that kind of cleaned up all of the mess. They got all of these homeless people out of the area, the people that have just been camping out there. All that got cleaned up. So I think they really sugar coated the optics of this for the president, which I’m not sure is helping anybody.”

Biden didn’t do any public press conference or announcements. There were apparently private meetings and at one, he allegedly said to border patrol tell me what we need to do.

Barkdoll said, “Apparently he did get a lot of feedback yesterday on things that need to be done. Whether any of this comes to fruition remains to be seen.”

Biden will spend a few days in Mexico City.

He also met with Governor Greg Abbott of Texas yesterday where the governor gave him a letter outlining things that need to be done.

Barkdoll said, “Abbott’s saying this is too little, too late and Abbott may be right about that, but it does seem like Biden is very much pivoting more to the middle on this issue.”

In fact, going into the weekend, Biden rolled out policies that are incredibly similar to what former president Donald Trump had done to try to control the border – policies that Biden had been quite critical of in the past.

Barkdoll said, “He’s now suggesting that those policies be expanded and taken up by this new Congress. He’s clearly pivoting his positions. We could argue that on both sides. I think he’s seen popular opinion is we need something done on that border. It doesn’t matter what party you are or what your philosophy is, everyone agrees it’s a problem and he has sat back a long time and done nothing about it. Seemingly in the last couple of weeks, he’s reengaged in this issue.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM suggested, “A lot of people say this means he’s running again for sure. That that’s why he’s doing this because he doesn’t want to be criticized. Whoever’s going to running for president is going to get criticized on these things. So he’s trying to do a little bit of work so he can say ‘oh yeah, we were actually working on it.’ Despite the fact that it’s pure narrative and people are still not getting the true story.”

Ryan said, “Listen, you put Fetterman in office. I say four more years of Joe Biden. It’d be nice to see if people woke up and paid attention, but the only woke we’re going to get is what we have in schools and some of these folks with those woke agendas.”
