September 20 – We see the headlines, sometimes it feels like every day – sex trafficking and children.
There are billboards warning about it, famous celebrities getting caught in it.
But when it hits home, right in our backyard, it can be incredibly tough to stomach.
That’s what happened after two years of investigation into Timothy Raye Heefner, 64, of Chambersburg. Heefner has been charged with 704 total crimes after an alleged plot involving drug and sex for money where he preyed on young, drug-addicted women.
The full details can be found on the link at the end of this story.
Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM noted, “It’s a very in-depth story with nearly 50 pages on the affidavit. If all of this holds true, he has his day in court, of course, but my goodness, it’s quite a disturbing story.”
Heefner is currently sitting in the Franklin County Jail on $1.25 million bail.
Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “It is awful. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an affidavit that’s this detailed and it’s just awful, the allegations here. Suffice to say, if these allegations are true, this was a major human trafficking, drugs, sex, money enterprise that this guy was running, and we’re over 700 counts now. I wonder sometimes when these kinds of cases drop, you often will see the drip drip drip of more victims that come forward that say hey, this happened to me as well. I would not be surprised if you see that occur as well. But I can now understand looking through that affidavit why this took over two years. I mean, there must have been a tremendous amount between Chambersburg Police, district attorney, law enforcement resources to get their arms around how large this case was to bring these charges.”
Ryan pointed out, “Be advised that is a content warning. The details are not suitable for some readers.”
Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM noted, “I’d like to point out if anybody’s critical that we put a lot of details out there, we need to get a real view and be realistic about the sex trafficking, especially if it’s happening to children, especially as it may relate to our open border and the way children are being brought across that border with very little accounting of where they end up afterwards. Wake up America because we have to stop this and stop this exploitation of children.”
Barkdoll said, “Well said. It’s a big problem. In this case, as the affidavit points out, it sounds like this guy was flaunting a lot of these activities on recorded phone calls that he was having with people at the jail, seeking out people that were in vulnerable positions and no doubt those recorded calls are going to come into evidence if this case goes to a trial.”
“He must have felt untouchable,” Jansen contended. “It’s ridiculous.”
