Something has got to be done at the southern border of the United States – but what?

January 4 – With a delegation of more than 50 US Representatives at Eagle Pass in Texas taking a hard look at what’s been going on at the southern border, a lot of people are starting to realize something has got to be done.

But the question is what can be done?

Reporting has shown more than 300,000 illegal immigrants have crossed over in one month’s time in December.

Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “That’s three Beaver Stadiums on a full capacity football Saturday at Penn State, just to visualize how many people that is. The problem is getting worse.”

Speaker of the US House Mike Johnson is one of the representatives at the border and he said yesterday, “Since the time that President Biden took office, the administration has done next to nothing to protect the border, but we’ve all seen with our own eyes they have opened the border wide to the entire world. It’s estimated that nearly 170 countries have people coming in and flowing across this border.”

Barkdoll said, “I think Speaker Johnson very smartly yesterday did a lot of interviews with what I would call non favorable outlets. He did a lengthy interview with CNN yesterday. He did a sit down with CBS. He’s going to be on Face The Nation this Sunday. They interviewed him at the border yesterday. There are about 60 Congressmen, including Dr. Joyce in this delegation, bringing attention to this issue.”

Congressman John Joyce said in a report to NewsTalk 103.7FM that he believes the key to this issue is passing HR 2, also called Secure the Border Act. The House passed the resolution in May.

The act has a number of provisions, including resuming construction of the border wall, increasing border patrol agents and strengthening laws and the asylum process.

The Senate has not taken any action on HR 2…yet.

Barkdoll said, “Now one thread to watch on this. There was a report last night that the US Senate is close to a deal. We know that they have stayed in session. There’s Republicans and Democrats on this working committee to come up with a deal to address border security that could be released according to Chuck Schumer, today or tomorrow. But the reason I say Johnson is smart is to go to these different outlets. We know polling is showing even among Democrats now, this is showing up as a high priority issue and that has not been the case. So I think Biden and the Democrats need to realize they better get on board with doing something about this because the public is demanding action. It is just not sustainable.”

US Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “He believes in order to get the work done at the border, we need more resources. DHS needs more resources. Our border patrol agents need more resources. We need more immigration judges. We need more resources to get this done.”

Representative Jim Jordan said, “He said no more building the wall, no more remain in Mexico while we evaluate an asylum seekers claim and he also said once you come to the country you will be released to wherever you want to go all across our nation.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “This is a responsibility caused by the Joe Biden administration and these Democrat mayors, they need to wake up to the reality that their communities are going to continue to face challenges including more buses and planes unless and until Joe Biden starts enforcing the immigration laws of the United States.”

Barkdoll noted, “As Governor Abbott said, you’re now hearing the mayors of these various cities say they just can’t keep absorbing this never ending flow of people illegally coming into the country.”

Jansen said, “It’s obvious and the Biden administration has done nothing but reward this bad behavior to the nth degree. You have whole tourism rising up in other countries to help people get over the border. It’s a joke. You have people coming in smiling, thanking Joe Biden. They feel no fear at all of what’s going to happen to them. It’s just absurd to think that anyone’s being serious about that border under the current administration. And I don’t trust Chuck Schumer. I don’t trust him at all. I mean, how close is this Senate deal to HR 2? That’s what I want to know.”

Barkdoll agreed, “That’s the key point.”
