Six families affected by Sunday’s multi-home blaze in Waynesboro

17 June 2024- Firefighter crews were called to the area around 23 Philadelphia Avenue in Waynesboro on Sunday morning for a blaze that quickly became a two alarm fire, according to local crews.

Fire companies from Waynesboro, Blue Ridge Summit, Leitersburg, Smithsburg, Hagerstown, and many surrounding areas in Franklin, Washington, and Adams counties just before 11am on Sunday, with them finding what they called multi-unit housing or row homes on Philadelphia Avenue in flames. Multiple hours were spent battling the blaze and preliminary reports seem to be that nobody was hurt but some pets may have been lost to the fire.

At this time it is believed six families were directly affected, with donations drives already being set up. Donations are being accepted by the Red Cross, at multiple local businesses including Mason Dixon Creations in Waynesboro, and GoFundMe. At this time, a cause of the fire has not been released by fire marshals. Any update as to the cause will be posted on Tristate Alert as it has been made available.
