22 September 2022- A Shippensburg woman was returned on her own recognizance after allegedly stealing around $5,000 from her boyfriend’s father. Chardonnay L Rutherford is charged with felony theft and felony receiving stolen property, but is free after being given a ROR.
A Shippensburg man notified police in August of this year that he had had money stolen from him sometime in 2021. The victim told police that because of his business he could have large sums of cash on him at one time or another. The victim then explained that his son had been dating Chardonnay Rutherford and that she had access to his home because of this. Throughout 2021, the victim noticed he was missing money from his home and confirmed with his employees that they were not stealing it. One day when doing work at home, the victim allegedly found a receipt torn up and stuffed in Rutherford’s daughter’s diaper in the garbage. The victim did not throw away the receipt and had it kept to keep track of his missing money. It was at this point the victim and his wife confronted Rutherford, to which she allegedly admitted to stealing around $5,000. Rutherford allegedly had made numerous social media videos admitting to stealing the money from the victim as well.
Rutherford has been released on her own recognizance and is awaiting her preliminary hearing. That hearing is set for October 26.
