Shippensburg man charged with aggravated assault, more after threatening to kill his roommate

24 July 2023- A Shippensburg man is looking at charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an argument over levels of friendship. Dakota William Arana is charged with felony aggravated assault with extreme indifference, felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor terroristic threats, misdemeanor assault, and summary harassment. Arana failed to post bail of $50,000 and is lodged in Cumberland County Corrections.

Police were dispatched to a home on Bard Drive around 2am on July 22nd for a reported dispute between roommates that had the potential to turn violent. When they arrived, PSP Troopers took Dakota Arana into custody while the investigation was conducted.

Troopers talked to Arana’s roommate, who allegedly told them that they were having an argument over “loyalty in the friendship” between them. It should be noted that Arana was reportedly drunk during the argument. Arana then became upset and proceeded to exit the apartment and begin banging on doors. Telling him to come inside before he was arrested, the victim was then allegedly headbutted by Arana before the latter began destroying things in the apartment. While the victim was on the phone with PSP dispatch, Arana allegedly brandished a pink and black knife, saying he would slit the victim’s throat. Police arrived shortly after.

When talking with Arana again, police were directed to his bedroom where they found the knife blade. Arana was not certain where the pink and black handle was, however, as it had broken off when he slashed the television with it.

Dakota Arana is behind bars on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for August 2nd.
