Roxbury patient arrested following assault on staff, barricading of nurses’ station

04 December 2023- Police say that an Easton, PA man who was a patient at the Roxbury Treatment Center is now in custody following a prolonged incident at the facility. Jamal Sayed Deyab is behind bars on $100,000 bail after being charged with felony aggravated assault against designated individuals, misdemeanor disorderly conduct engaging in fighting, misdemeanor assault, and summary harassment.

PSP Troopers were originally called to the Roxbury Treatment Center around 7:15pm on December 2nd for an assault on a medical staff member by a combative patient. That patient, Jamal Deyab, was inside of his room at the time Troopers arrived.

Speaking with the victim, police allegedly learned that Deyab was acting violently towards staff members when they eventually had to use a restraint technique on him. Troopers say Deyab was able to slip away his hands and violently pull the hair of a staff member, resulting in some of it ripping out. At another point in the incident, Deyab allegedly bit the victim and spit on her as well as pushing the victim forcefully backwards onto his bed.

The injuries suffered by the staff member were reportedly severe enough to result in medical treatment.

While PSP were investigating the assault, they say Deyab was able to get past medical staff after several warnings to stay in his room. It was at this point Deyab barricaded himself behind the nurses’ station nearby. He was, however, taken into custody shortly after.

Jamal Deyab is behind bars on $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for December 12th.
