REMINDER: Fireworks are PROHIBITED in the Borough of Chambersburg!

14 June 2024- The Chambersburg Police Department would like to remind the public that the following prohibitions apply to fireworks, particularly “consumer fireworks.” The term “consumer firework” does not include devices such as “ground and hand-held sparkling devices,” “novelties,” or “toy caps.” The term “consumer fireworks” includes firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and similar fireworks. The term “display fireworks” describes items that contain more than two grains or 130 milligrams of explosive materials and professional-grade aerial shells containing more than 60 grams of explosive materials. 

The use of aerial fireworks and/or “display fireworks” is only allowed to be used by professionals with permits. Anyone violating the local law may be found guilty of a summary offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be sentenced to pay a $500 fine in addition to any other penalty authorized by law. Members of the Chambersburg Police Department will use their discretion while enforcing violations.
