CHAMBERSBURG—The official Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign kicks off Thursday, Nov. 12.
Last year, the Chambersburg campaign raised $80,000.
Since March, the Chambersburg Salvation Army has provided 10,000 meals and financial assistance with rent, utilities and funeral expenses to 196 families.
This year presents a challenge, as the Salvation Army has fewer kettle locations, more difficulty recruiting volunteers and consumers carrying less cash and coins, along with a decrease in foot traffic, according to campaign officials.
Kettles will be out beginning Nov. 12 at The Butcher Shoppe, Sunnyway (both locations) and Hobby Lobby.
Kettles will be added at Walmarts in Chambersburg, Shippensburg and Waynesboro beginning Nov. 21.
Online donations may be made at salarmy.us/chambersburgredkettle. All gifts made locally stay in the community.
Volunteers are needed to be bell-ringers. If interested, call Jacki Brewer at 717-264-6169.
