14 August 2023- Multiple prior DUI convictions didn’t stop a Chambersburg man from fleeing Troopers on a motorized bicycle in the early hours of Saturday. Ian Patrick Bomba is charged with felony fleeing an officer, felony DUI, misdemeanor driving on a suspended license, misdemeanor BAC .02 or greater, and four traffic violations. Bomba is behind bars on $5,000 bail.
Around 1:10am on August 12th, Pennsylvania State Police were on regular patrol on Lincoln Way East when they allegedly spotted a motorized bike near Cherry Avenue crossing multiple lanes of travel without any signaling or hand signals. After seeing the bike cross into the eastbound lanes from the opposite side and continue along the wrong way of the road, police activated their emergency lights and tried to pull over the man. That rider, now identified as Ian Patrick Bomba, allegedly fled south on Cherry Avenue on his bike before he hit a gravel alley and crashed his bike. Police then apprehended him without incident.
Police talked to Bomba on scene, where he reportedly had slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and smelled of alcohol. Bomba allegedly admitted to drinking prior and subsequently showed signs of impairment.
While running Bomba’s information, police found that his driver’s license was suspended on two prior DUI convictions. Bomba has been convicted three times total in the last 10 years on driving while intoxicated charges. After his arrest, Bomba was transported to Chambersburg Hospital for a legal blood draw for his BAC.
Ian Bomba is behind bars on $5,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for August 22nd.
