24 August 2023- Pennsylvania State Police records identify one person as being pronounced deceased at the scene following a crash on Olde Scotland Road around 7:40pm on Monday.
Ernest S Bowens, 69, of Shippensburg was driving a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder southbound on Olde Scotland Road in the 9100 block when his vehicle crossed the double yellow line and moved into the opposing lane of travel. Police say that this maneuver didn’t have a known reason, but Bowens’ vehicle ultimately hit a 2009 Navistar SA525 commercial truck head on.
As a result of the collision, Bowens’ Pathfinder caught on fire, with firefighters eventually putting it out later. Troopers say Bowens was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
The driver of the Navistar truck, a 30 year old Shippensburg man, initially denied medical attention but was ultimately transported by EMS to Chambersburg Hospital.
