Police arrest Chambersburg Dicks employee for stealing merchandise, refunding himself

21 December 2023- A theft of around $2,700 worth of merchandise at the Chambersburg Dicks raised eyebrows recently after it was discovered the alleged perpetrator was a Dick’s Sporting Goods employee. Brandon Charles Staub is free on an unsecured bail of $5,000 after being charged with felony retail theft and felony receiving stolen property.

Pennsylvania State Police were initially contacted around 12:30pm of December 14th that a retail theft was likely taking place at the Dicks Sporting Goods store on Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. When loss prevention was contacted, police allegedly learned that between September 30th and December 4th, an employee named Brandon Staub was ordering items from the store’s website. When the items arrived, police say, he would issue himself a refund and keep the merchandise. The total value of the items was reported at $2,701.08.

Loss Prevention believed that Staub was sending the items to his home under different names prior to the refunds being issued.

Staub was directly asked about this, with police saying he admitted to the operation as well as providing a written statement. Troopers interviewed Staub, allegedly saying the theft was the result of him “not getting along with management”.

Brandon Staub is free on an unsecured bail of $5,000. His preliminary hearing is set for December 28th.
