28 July 2023- A Homestead, PA man is looking at two felonies after he allegedly tries multiple times and succeeds once at passing phony checks at multiple Franklin County banks. Casey Ryan Brown is charged with felony forgery and felony access device fraud. Brown failed to post bail of $20,000 and is behind bars in Allegheny County, PA on the above charges.
On April 20th, Washington Township PD were dispatched to a Waynesboro area automotive shop for a fraud report. After talking to the victim, police found that someone forged a check and cashed it at an F&M Trust branch in Chambersburg. The perpetrator had allegedly tried to do this same con at the Greencastle and Marion branches of the bank, as well. A fraud claim was conducted by the victim through F&M Trust and F&M employees were contacted by the police.
Police and F&M found that the man, now believed to be Casey Brown, had tried to cash the initial check at the Marion branch before being successful at the bank’s Orchard Drive branch in Chambersburg. The checks, according to the bank and the victim, had different amounts on them. The good news, however, was that the suspect’s name on both the cashed and failed checks was Casey Brown of Homestead, PA. A driver’s license confirmed this, as well.
Police were eventually given pictures of the man who attempted to cash the check at the Marion branch, with them eventually confirming that this was Casey Brown of the Pittsburgh area.
Brown is behind bars on $20,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for August 8th.
