Philadelphia woman arrested following Shippensburg group-burglary, assault

17 November 2023- Somewhere between 7 and 10 people are said to have broken into a Shippensburg apartment to damage property and assault a victim, with at least one being arrested. Charlea Kay McKnight is charged with felony burglary, felony criminal trespassing, misdemeanor defiant trespassing, misdemeanor criminal mischief damaging property, misdemeanor assault, and misdemeanor conspiracy to commit assault. McKnight is free on an unsecured bail of $20,000.

Pennsylvania State Police were alerted to a burglary at a home on Austin Court, Shippensburg Township on November 15th around 1:47pm. Police say they were at the previous residence the day prior for an incident involving Charlea McKnight and her ex-boyfriend and that ex’s current girlfriend. That prior incident allegedly involved slashed tires, a verbal altercation, and McKnight being told not to return.

When police arrived at the home on the 15th, they allegedly found significant damage to multiple doors to the apartment. Dents were found in the front door and the bedroom door was significantly damaged. The victims, the ones also involved in the prior incident minus McKnight, were reportedly very shaken up at the incident.

During interviews, police allegedly learned that approximately 10 people had made their way into the apartment by force and broke into the one victim’s room wearing ski masks and utility gloves. Police say that the victims were confident one of the attackers was Charlea McKnight, especially considering she knew the code to the front door and to his bedroom door. It was also revealed that another attacker may have been a family member of McKnight.

During the assault, McKnight’s ex-boyfriend allegedly ad his left earring pulled out of his ear, scratches on his body, and a minor injury to his left eye. The second victim reportedly fought another of McKnight’s family members, with the prior sustaining lacerations to her neck.

Charlea McKnight is free on an unsecured bail of $20,000. Her preliminary hearing is set for November 22nd.
