Perry County man allegedly gets in hit and run accident at PA/MD line, leads police on high speed chase all the way to Carlisle

29 April 2024- A Blain, Pennsylvania man is facing two separate cases and potentially more after a hit and run crash in Greencastle finally ends in Carlisle during an April Sunday morning incident. Omar William Stoltzfus Jr is charged in one cast with fleeing an officer, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and nine traffic violations. In a related case, Stoltzfus has been charged with misdemeanor accidents involving damage and three other traffic violations. He remains behind bars on a combined bail of $25,000.

Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were initially dispatched to a hit and run crash near mile marker 1, Antrim Township and subsequently found a Toyota Tacoma leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. The accident itself, PSP say, stemmed from a Volkswagen Atlas attempting to merge off I-81NB and into the PA Welcome Center. The Volkswagen, Troopers say, was in the off ramp lane when a vehicle allegedly driven by Stoltzfus passed it on the shoulder at a high rate of speed, causing damage to the Volkswagen’s passenger side. Stoltzfus then allegedly fled the scene back on I-81 after crossing through the Welcome Center parking lot.

Stoltzfus was found by PSP near mile marker 20 by a Trooper who was alerted to the description of his vehicle. After attempting to make a traffic stop, PSP engaged in a chase. During this, police say that Stoltzfus’s Toyota Tacoma was going speeds of 115mph by the time they reached MM 23. The Tacoma continued, allegedly passing vehicles on the right shoulder and weaving in and out of traffic. Additionally, Troopers say that the truck got off the interstate, blew through a stop sign, then continued back onto the highway in an effort to evade cops. Over the course of the chase, Troopers say Stoltzfus struck multiple vehicles while trying to evade arrest.

When Stoltzfus tried to get off the highway around exit 44, he was unable to stay on the road and crashed at a high rate of speed. This is when Troopers were able to apprehend and identify him as Omar Stoltzfus Jr. Due to the severity of the crash, Stoltzfus was transported by EMS for medical evaluation. He has since been discharged and is behind bars in Franklin County Jail.
