26 January 2023- A Dry Run man is looking at felony charges after allegedly breaking a table and trying to assault his cousin. Kalem Eugene Murray is behind bars on $50,000 bail after being charged with felony attempted aggravated assault, misdemeanor criminal mischief, misdemeanor simple assault, and summary harassment.
Around 3pm on January 25th, Police were dispatched to a home on Path Valley Road for reports of an assault between two cousins. Upon arrival, the two victims allegedly told police the perpetrator, Kalem Murray, was heading south towards a ballfield. Around a half hour later, police interviewed one of the victims who allegedly said they work for an in-home care company and cares for his grandparents. They had just started their shift when Murray emerged from his bedroom yelling “I don’t want him here”. Murray then allegedly swung a rubber mallet and struck the table the victim was siting at, causing it to split apart. One of Murray’s family members stepped in between the two, causing Murray to allegedly swing the rubber mallet towards the first victim, over top of his family member’s head. Murray also allegedly struck the door frame with the mallet, almost hitting the first victim. It was at this point the police were called and Murray left.
Murray was allegedly taken into custody by police around 6pm when one of the victims said Murray had returned to the home. He was apprehended shortly after the call. Murray allegedly told police he was mad at the first victim for prior incidents and didn’t want him at the house. He also said he did hit the kitchen table to “scare the crap out of him”. Murray also got mad at his family member for stepping in, allegedly saying he went back to the room and swung the mallet at the wall, ripping a hole in it.
Murray is behind bars on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for February 7th.
