PA Turnpike Traveler Heads Up

August 14 – An 86-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed in both directions overnight this weekend.

The closure is necessary so workers can install beams for the replacement of the Country Ridge Road bridge, which carries traffic over the toll road in Bedford Township, Bedford County. It will start at 11 p.m. on Saturday between New Stanton (Exit 75) and Breezewood (Exit 161), and the road will reopen at about 6 a.m. on Sunday.

The turnpike in central PA will be effected by a month long maintenance project of area tunnels. According to the Turnpike Commission, beginning this Monday new traffic patterns will be in place approaching the Kittatinny and Blue Mountain tunnels between exit 189 and exit 201. Eastbound tunnel closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, from Aug. 16 until Aug. 26. Traffic will cross over to the opposite tunnel and operate as bi-directional during the closures. Slow or stopped traffic, and extra travel time should be expected. Westbound tunnel closure will follow September 7th through the 16th.
