08 December 2022- In a social media post today the Berkeley County Sheriffs Department is warning of another scam where perpetrators say they are members of law enforcement. As spoofers continue their prevalence, please keep a look out for this scam and report it to the Department if you are a victim.
Once again our community is being plagued by phone call scammers saying they are Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. These callers are claiming citizens need to pay to avoid having warrants issued, jail time, that they are violating probation… a few reports have even said they were fundraising for widows and children for the holidays. BCSD would NEVER tell you to pay anything over the phone! Please do not share personal information- banking or otherwise- with these callers. If you receive a call and think it MAY be legitimate HANG UP and call the department directly at 304-267-7000.
