MI man booked in Fulton Co. after traffic stop finds weed, magic mushrooms, illegal handgun

15 March 2023- A simple traffic stop on I-70 finds marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, and an illegally carried loaded firearm. Jamal Tyrik Council is charged with misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor firearm carried without a license, misdemeanor marijuana possession, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia, and three traffic violations. He is currently free on $50,000 unsecured bail.

On March 14th around 1pm, PSP-McConnellsburg Troopers were on patrol on I-70 in Fulton County when they allegedly found a black Jaguar sedan change lanes without a turn signal. A traffic stop was carried out and police allegedly found the driver and the car to smell of marijuana. The driver, identified as Jamal Council, allegedly gave consent to search the vehicle because of the smell.

On the passenger side floor board of the car, Troopers allegedly found a black unsealed bag containing marijuana, an open black plastic bag with marijuana residue, a clear plastic baggie with marijuana, and a black baggie with psilocybin mushrooms. Additionally, more marijuana was found in the back seat. Finally, police allegedly found a Glock 17 handgun that was loaded with 18 rounds.

Council did not have a concealed carry permit for the gun, with him allegedly saying that he had bought the gun in a private sale and that his name was not registered to the firearm.

Council is free on an unsecured bail of $50,000. His preliminary hearing is set for March 27th.
