March 25 – The Franklin County Commissioners were asked by constituents to look into a place to hold a mass vaccination clinic for COVID19 and the commissioners have worked with WellSpan to find that.
The old Burlington Coat Factory at the Chambersburg Mall has had the heat restarted and cleaned up this week in anticipation of the vaccination clinic that will hopefully be held in April.
Members of the Emergency Services Department in the County worked with professionals at WellSpan to tour different facilities to house the clinic and decided on the Burlington Coat Factory.
The hope is to get people through relatively quickly – there will be eight separate lines for the vaccinations – but participants will have to wait for 15 minutes to be sure there are no adverse side effects from the vaccine.
The biggest side effect being pain in the injection site.
Officials at WellSpan wanted to make certain that anyone who gets the vaccine will be given enough time to watch for the side effects, which is one of the reasons a drive-through vaccine clinic was dismissed.
While the side effects may not be that great, the officials at the county and WellSpan want to do their due diligence to keep residents safe.
In terms of the hours the vaccine clinic will be open, the county and WellSpan are looking to have hours available on the weekends as well so everyone can have access to the vaccines.
