Mail-in voting is important

May 28 – While there’s been somewhat of a stigma attached to mail-in voting in the past few years, it really is a good way to have your voice be heard.

Mail-in voting is something that is here and not going anywhere.

Franklin County Commissioner John Flannery said, “The state committee level, at that level, they’ve been really pushing it. So we embraced it this year as a Republican committee. We’re really starting to put it out there. We did a small campaign, sent out mailers to I believe 4,000 or 5,000 voters that generally don’t vote except for presidential elections, just to try to first motivate them to get them off their rear ends and get these mail-in ballots. Instead of sitting home on election day, mail it in.”

The recent primary election in Pennsylvania saw 90% of mail-in ballots coming from Democrats.

Flannery said, “We can’t get the Republicans engaged.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “Remember, you have to apply to get the mail-in ballots. So it’s a two step process, but you have 50 days to actually do the voting, but I don’t see any restriction on when you actually can put in the application for it. There’s an online way to do that.”

Flannery said, “You can go online, go to our voter registration, submit that application right there for a mail-in ballot. They will mail you something that confirms that you are on that list, and then you’ll know that you’re going to receive a mail-in ballot come election time.”

Jansen added, “If you have any qualms about how to fill it out, if you live close by that’s convenient for you to drop by the courthouse, you can actually go to the office there and they will help you.”

Flannery confirmed, “Absolutely, absolutely 100%.”

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “Listen you’d have to cut my leg off in order for me not to make that. I like going there. I like seeing the people. I’m built that way and that’s fine. That’s fine for me. We’ve got to get into that scrum.”

Flannery said, “I can tell you the state committee in Pennsylvania is making it a priority. So I hope to see a lot of progress for this general election.”
