28 December 2023- A man was admitted to Chambersburg Hospital with broken glass in his eyes following an incident involving another man chasing and threatening bar patrons with a machete during the early hours of Thursday morning. Anyel Luis Nunez Munoz is charged with felony aggravated assault with extreme indifference, felony evading arrest on foot, misdemeanor assault, misdemeanor resisting arrest, misdemeanor criminal mischief, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct engaged in fighting. Nunez Munoz is behind bars on $50,000 bail, which he has not posted.
Just after 1am on December 28th, Franklin County Dispatch received multiple calls involving a disturbance at the Legendz bar on Hollywell Avenue, Chambersburg Borough. One of the callers described the man to the dispatcher, advising that he had a machete and had hit someone with it.
Officers from Chambersburg PD arrived shortly after the call and found a man later identified as Anyel Nunez Munoz nearby the business with a machete still in hand. Officers had to give chase after Nunez Munoz allegedly bolted, eventually taking him into custody after the man began throwing up on the sidewalk. Nunez Munoz allegedly had to be forced to the ground by three officers to finally handcuff him as he resisted all attempts at arrest.
One of the victims was spoken to by CPD, with police saying that he told them Nunez Munoz had struck the windows and glass door of the business with both his machete and bricks. Security camera footage of the incident was viewed by officers, reportedly corroborating the witness.
After police arrested Nunez Munoz the went to Chambersburg Hospital to speak with another victim. This man had been admitted to the hospital after broken glass got into his eyes when Nunez Munoz broke the bar door with his machete. It reportedly started when the victim was walking through the parking lot of the business and he saw Nunez Munoz coming towards him. The latter allegedly took a machete out of his coat pockets and chased the victim around the parking lot. After a chase, the victim tried to enter the bar to escape Nunez Munoz, but police say the latter began peppering the door and windows with rocks, bricks, and his machete.
Anyel Luis Nunez Munoz is behind bars on $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for January 9th.
