Locked Up

SMITHSBURG – December 6, 2020, at approximately 7:30 PM, Deputies responded to the area of 12049 Little Antietam Road, Smithsburg, for a reported single vehicle collision.

While en-route to the location, deputies were informed that the driver of the vehicle attempted to leave the area and was being detained by citizens. Upon arrival, deputies identified the driver as Joel Thomas Grosso, 42, or Waynesboro, PA. Grosso advised that he was driving his 2006 Buick Lucerne, when a deer jumped in front of him, causing him to serve and strike a power line pole. Grosso stated he tried to leave the area of the accident due to fear of the downed power lines from the struck pole.

Through further investigation, Grosso was found to have been in possession of 2 backpacks containing controlled dangerous substances (CDS), digital scales and a handgun, also additional CDS was found on his person.

Upon completion of searching Grosso and his property, he was found to have been in possession of approximately 26 grams of Crack Cocaine, 63 capsules of Fentanyl, 3 Suboxone films and 5 Vyvanse capsules.

Grosso was charged with 5 counts of CDS Possession-not marijuana (5-601 a 1), Firearm possession felony conviction (5-133 c), 2 counts of CDS possession with intent to distribute (5-602 2), CDS possession large amount (5-612), CDS: possession paraphernalia (5-619 c 2), Firearm – use/felony violent crime and Regulated firearm-illegal possession.

Grosso was transported to Central Booking for processing and is currently being held on no bond.

In addition to the charges from this incident, Grosso was arrest on an outstanding warrant.
