It looks like Disney might be backpedaling a little on the woke policies in their movies

November 28 – The Disney Corporation will begin taking a hard look at their bottom line – something that has been more than a little shaky in recent years.

Disney CEO Bob Iger met with executives this morning to dig into what’s been going on and how they can fix things.

Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “David Muir is going to moderate this discussion today with Bob Iger and all of these employees. Interestingly, in Disney’s own SEC filing yesterday they admitted that getting involved in some of these political matters has affected their bottom line. Now that was Iger’s predecessor. It was not Iger himself, but he’s now left to clean up the mess.”

Some investors are considering divesting some of their entertainment assets they own, like ABC and ESPN.

Barkdoll said, “Some investors think that needs to go. They now have three activist investors too, that are pushing for board seats and reforms at the company. So a lot of pressure points are happening in Disney right now.”

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “You’ve got to think, the activists, if that’s the role you want to play then you need to supplement the money that the rest of the stockholders are losing because of your losing position.”

Barkdoll said, “I think that’s what these activist investors are getting to. Now these are people that have acquired five percent or more of the publicly traded stock in Disney. So these are people that have now invested billions of dollars and they want to see changes in how the company is operating.”

Ryan asked, “Are they looking for more activism or are they looking to knock it off, can we get back to making money for the shareholders?”

“They’re looking to knock it off,” Barkdoll confirmed. “Investor activists, that’s the Wall Street term when they’ve acquired more than five percent. They do not want Disney going down all of these political and DEI paths. They want them to get back to business.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM noted, “And yet there’s an article in USA Today claiming that it was a satirical post that lied to everybody that Disney is having any issues with wokeness. It’s like, what? Yeah there was a satirical article. Yeah. I agree that people picked it up as real and it wasn’t real. But that doesn’t mean that going down those politically correct or activism urged pathways was not bad. The movies have been doing dismally. People are not happy when they see their favorite fairy tales, or all the kids always have a message trying to push out and it’s like no, entertain us, for heaven’s sake. Your brand was so trusted. Yeah, we knew we could trust our children with your brand because it was wholesome. It was good and now you’re trying to shove all these activist positions in all of our faces, including our kids, and we don’t like it. So guess what? We’re backing away from you.”

Barkdoll said, “Bob Iger is one of the most respected effective CEOs in America and remember, he retired from Disney. He was done with all of this stuff. When they started to quickly go down the tubes, the board talked him into coming back. So he’s now the guy playing clean up and if there’s anyone that will get it on the right track, I have no doubt it will be him. But this may be a problem that’s just insurmountable. It’s going to be a really difficult fix.”
