Investigation by CPD, PSP lands Harrisburg man behind bars for string of 10 retail thefts

11 January 2024- A man wanted in connection to a string of alleged retail thefts in Cumberland County is now behind bars after attempting the same MO in Franklin County. Ralph Russell Chase is behind bars on $50,000 bail after being charged in Franklin County with felony retail theft. Chase is also facing two separate felony charges of retail theft from Lower Allen Twp PD, felony retail theft and felony conspiracy to commit retail theft from Camp Hill PD, and felony retail theft from Hampden Twp PD in addition to his Franklin County charges.

On October 18th, 2023 around 5pm, Chambersburg PD officers were made aware of a reported retail theft at the Weis Markets on Wayne Avenue. CPD say that they can confirm Ralph Chase and another unidentified ale filled a shopping cart full of groceries and merchandise from the store and walked out the front door without paying for them.

Inside of the car, investigators say, were twelve wet-aged steaks, three bags of shrimp, two packs of Glad trash bags, a pack of Scott toilet paper, a pack of Bounty paper towels, two bottles of Tide, Folgers coffee, two packs of Pampers diapers, two packs of Bubba Burgers, and two Coffee Mate dry creamers. The total cost of this incident was reported at $592.91.

Chambersburg PD say that Chase has been involved with ten similar thefts from March 25th, 2023 to November 22nd, 2023. Chase, according to PSP, was wanted by PSP Lykens for additional thefts, likely in other counties. Many of the alleged thefts followed similar MOs, with Chase finally being arrested in Franklin County.

Ralph Chase is behind bars in Franklin County on $50,000 bail.
