How much could Biden and the failings of his administration hurt other Democrats in midterm elections?
October 12 – In Pennsylvania, it’s no great secret that Attorney General Josh Shapiro will make a run for governor next year.
At the moment, it doesn’t appear any other Democrats will be running against him, so he should have a clear path.
But will he?
Could President Joe Biden’s low approval rating hurt Shapiro and other Democrats looking to take seats in upcoming midterm elections?
Attorney Clint Barkdoll, Pat Ryan and Michele Jansen discussed the anchor that is Joe Biden this morning during the Big Talk on First News.
In terms of Shapiro’s run for governor, Barkdoll said, “Basically the Democrats have cleared the field for him. He’s just starting his second term as attorney general. He’s going to be a very formidable candidate. Purely from a name-recognition and money standpoint.”
Shapiro is sitting on millions and has shown he is a prolific fundraiser over the years.
Barkdoll pointed out, “He does have history working against him. We know Pennsylvania for a hundred years or more, they go back and forth between Republican and Democratic governors. Corbett kind of broke that cycle by only serving one term, but now that Wolf has done two terms, if history holds a Republican would be in line to take over the governor’s mansion, but we know demographics have changed greatly in Pennsylvania and this will be a very tight race next fall and it’s going to be an interesting one to watch.”
Jansen said, “We know Governor Wolf is not doing a great job for Pennsylvania and now he’s taking us down the road of some pretty radical initiatives like RGGI and it’s going to be more economic pain going on here certainly compounded by what Biden’s doing, so it should be a tough slog for a Democrat, you would think.”
Barkdoll said, “That’s a good point with Biden. The one thing working against these Democrat candidates, history aside, is Biden. We know he’s not showing that he has any coat tails.”
Terry McAuliffe in Virginia is already expressing concerns about losing the governor race there because of Biden’s unpopularity.
Barkdoll said, “Those same dynamics very well could be at play here in Pennsylvania come next fall. If things keep trending the way there are, it’s going to be very difficult for Democrats to win these races.”
Add to that the odd entity that is Kamala Harris and things get even more dicey. Harris did a video for NASA to try to show children the wonders of space exploration. It’s now coming out that the children in the video were paid child actors.
Barkdoll said, “It didn’t come off very well. I think now that you’re seeing that this was all maybe even more contrived than it looked, I think is just another mark against her that seems to be the way she operates.”
Ryan said, “Frankly I’d rather see Shatner there before he blasts off into outer space. He’d be a far more reputable person than the space cadet that is Kamala.”
