High speed chase down Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg ends with one in custody

12 June 2024- A Chambersburg man is behind bars in Franklin County today after allegedly blowing through lights and leading police on a triple digit chase through Guilford Township. Brian Manuel Marte failed to post bail of $150,000 after being charged with felony fleeing an officer, misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, two misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession, and 11 traffic violations.

PSP Troopers say they were on regular patrol around 12:45am on June 12th near the intersection of Lincoln Way East and Stouffer Avenue in Chambersburg Borough when they spotted a sedan blow through a red light heading eastbound on Lincoln Way East. This vehicle, a 2011 Subaru Impreza, was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed so Troopers immediately gave chase and tried to pull the vehicle over.

After failing to yield to the emergency lights and sirens, Troopers say they continued a chase down Lincoln Way East that eventually lasted for just under 4.5 miles. During this incident, Troopers say the Subaru was traveling at speeds up to 110 mph and weaving dangerously between traffic. That Subaru then quickly turned on St Johns Drive before turning onto Wisteria Drive and Bellows Court. It was at this point that Troopers successfully boxed in the Subaru and managed to end the chase in a parking lot. Commanding the driver to exit the vehicle, he reportedly complied and the encounter was ended.

Troopers say that the driver was identified as Brian Marte of Chambersburg. As they spoke to Marte, Troopers allegedly identified an odor of alcohol as well as noticing slurred speech and signs of impairment.

After noticing rolling papers containing marijuana in a cup holder, Troopers asked Marte how much marijuana was in the vehicle. Marte allegedly replied “I don’t have any weed at all, you can check the car”. A search of the car, however, reportedly yielded rolling papers with marijuana as well as a baggie containing marijuana in the center console as well as a THC vape cartridge.

Brian Marte remains behind bars on $150,000 bail.
