Here comes another $7.4 billion in student debt bailouts

April 12 – The Biden administration announced today it plans to cancel yet another round of student loan debt for almost 300,000 borrowers by using existing student loan forgiveness programs.

The total amount this time is $7.4 billion.

But a whole lot of people are wondering why on earth the president keeps doing this when the US Supreme Court has already said it’s illegal.

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “More of this administration’s just slap in the face to the kids and the grandkids. It is not forgiveness. You signed a piece of paper. You don’t want to then continue to close the promise that you made on a piece of paper and you’re okay with Joe Biden saying no, no, no, no need to do that.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM added, “It’s interesting how he’s so worried about how he can’t do anything on the border because the courts will probably slap that down. He doesn’t have the ability to do that on the border. But he does somehow have the ability to do this even though the courts have told him he can’t do this.”

Ryan noted, “Not just the court, the Supreme Court. So we’re buying votes and we’re pandering to the lowest common denominator here that should be walking away from this. All you have to do is look at the numbers. Apparently a college education doesn’t teach you economics.”

Attorney Clint Barkdoll agreed, “It’s incredible to me. Again, it’s by executive order. Now this piece seems to be targeted at what the government considers low income borrowers that were under a program called SAVE. So with the stroke of a pen, notwithstanding that Supreme Court decision, it has baffled me for months now, how he keeps doing this. To your point on the border, Biden did that sit down interview, I believe it was Wednesday with Spanish television in the US. He clearly is teasing the fact that he may be soon doing an executive order on the border. But then the same interviewer says, well, maybe it’s not legal, but what’s the harm in trying it? So very inconsistent here, and it looks like he may roll that out.”
