HAGERSTOWN – Saturday, 22 January 2023, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting that occurred at Foxshire Plaza on the Dual Highway. A male victim was struck in the leg and a handgun was recovered on the scene. Through investigation, the WCSO obtained a warrant for Andrew Dwight Burke, age 33 of Hagerstown.
Burke has a significant history of being arrested and charged with drug and handgun violations dating back to 2011. After the warrant was issued, HPD officers located Burke in the west end of Hagerstown where he drove away in a vehicle along with a male passenger. Officers followed the suspect and eventually made a traffic stop in order to place Burke under arrest for the active warrant. Officers stopped the car and both occupants fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit both were apprehended. Burke and his passenger, Mark Anthony Jacobs, age 30 of Hagerstown were in possession of loaded handguns at the time of their arrests.
Burke is currently held without bond and Jacobs is being held on an active warrant out of the State of Virginia as he awaits extradition.
These arrests underscore the dangers our officers face every day and two more handguns are off our streets. Great work by both the WCSO and HPD!
