Hagerstown PD says death of 6 year old boy attributed to neglect, malnutrition, and starvation

01 December 2023- On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at approximately 12:51 PM, officers from the Hagerstown Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of N. Locust St., Hagerstown, MD, for a report of an unresponsive 6-year-old juvenile male. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the 6-year-old juvenile was deceased. It was determined that the juvenile was suffering from severe malnutrition and starvation.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the juvenile’s father, Andre Derek Ford, failed to provide proper care and medical treatment to the child. A second male child, age 5, was also in the residence. He was removed from the home and is currently under medical treatment.

An arrest warrant was obtained and served on Andre Derek Ford (1/13/92) and he is currently charged with the following:

Child Abuse -1st Degree: Death

Child Abuse – 1st Severe Physical Injury

Neglect of Minor

Further charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and results of the autopsy. 

Ford is currently incarcerated at the Washington County Detention Center. This is an active and ongoing investigation. No further details are being released by HPD at this time.
