Hagerstown Mayor and Council have a pretty full work session this evening

July 25 – There are 15 consent agenda items and 14 new business agenda items for the Hagerstown Mayor and Council work session tonight at 7pm

The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 1 E. Franklin Street and can be attended in-person where the mic will be on for public comment.

The meeting can also be viewed on the city’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.

One item up for discussion will be approval of the memorandum of understanding with the county commissioners for the 911 Center.

Wes Decker, Communications Officer for the City of Hagerstown, said, “And how that will be phased out over the next several years with money being forgiven on the city’s behalf that the commissioners will actually put toward the Hagerstown Fieldhouse project.”

Mayor and Council will also talk about the approval of the purchase of equipment for the city wide camera expansion.

Decker explained, “That is the Hagerstown Police Department where they are expanding the cameras to the King Street area which is near where the old hospital used to be downtown.”

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM asked, “How many cameras are they adding? As it’s been explained to us Hagerstown has the most amount of cameras in Maryland for a municipality.”

Decker said, “I believe it’s another 20 to 30 just in what is relatively a small area, but it’s an area that has had some nefarious activity for sure. So we want to make sure that all eyes are available all times of the day down there and just, again, is pretty much contiguous to what we’ve been doing so far with that camera system project. So more eyes on the streets, making sure that the police department has all the resources necessary to do what they need to do to keep everyone safe.”

Mayor and Council will also take a look at ARPA funding for nonprofit organizations. There is $690,000 available to nonprofits.

Decker said, “We will have an application, all of the guidelines and everything that goes along with that live on the website starting tomorrow on Wednesday. So again, that will go through the approval process as part of the meeting.”
